The academic year is drawing to a close and once exams and deadlines are over most of you will be thinking about moving home for the summer holidays. Here are our moving out tips for making a smooth move.
Pack an overnight bag. Chances are after a day move moving your possessions about and traveling you’ll be too tired to un-pack. This way you’ll have all the essentials at hand.
Pack items you need right away in a clear plastic box. This makes it easy to distinguish from the rest of the cardboard boxes and bags of possessions.
Wrap up breakable items in clean clothing to save money on bubble wrap. Socks are great for packing delicate glasses in.
Label boxes clearly. Numbering boxes and having a list of contents is a good idea so you can track any boxes that go missing and know what was inside.
Take a picture of electronics, so you can see where all the wires go when putting them back together.
Remember to defrost the fridge/freezer and wipe any moisture away before the last person leaves the flat. People often forget to clean the oven before moving out too.
U-student advise to have a departure check before you head home to make sure your bedroom and the common areas of the flat are clean and left in the condition you moved in to.
